Weekly Goals

The Money Saving Mom suggests setting 10 weekly goals, and I've decided that's a really good idea for me to try.  Just 10 things to focus on throughout the week.  Doesn't seem too overwhelming, and since she rarely finishes all of her goals, I won't feel so bad if I don't finish all of mine (although that would be nice!  Here are my goals for this week:

1. Catch up on my Bible reading (I'm waaaaay behind...)
2. Take the boys outside at least once!  (Confession: some of these are already done!  But I'm adding them since they are on my list)
3. Finish packing my hospital bags, since this little girl will be here sometime in the next 5 weeks :-D
4. Finish prepping the prefolds I bought new.  They have to be washed in hot water a few times before they work well.
5. Start freezer cooking!  We don't have a ton of room in our freeze, but I think this is important since we won't be able to accept food from our church food ministry.  Yay food allergies :-/
6. Install car seat!  We still don't have one.  Yikes!  But I'm picking it up from my friend tomorrow, if all works out.
7. Birthday dinner out with my hubby's family.  Did I mention my hubby turned 30???  What an old man, lol.  This is another one I'm done with already.  We went to a place I hate, but J loves.  I ate something that was ok, and then a few hours later, got hit badly with stupid food poisoning!  It. Was. AWFUL.
8. Pay our first of three HOA fees.
9. Finish Thank You cards for my baby shower.
10. This week, I have set a goal to turn off ALL electronics for the morning.  We can have them until breakfast, and then they go off until nap time.  This is mostly to help me focus on the important things (my kids...) instead of constantly checking my texts and facebook.  It's also to help the boys learn to do things other than play on the iPad or watch TV.  They've become just as addicted as I am....  NOT good.

So there you have it.  My goals.  Overall, I'm doing...ok on them.  Like I said, I got sick, really sick, yesterday so some of them went out the window.  Like the electronics goal.  All of us watched tv a lot yesterday.  But Daddy was in charge of the boys and I don't like to tell him how he needs to parent.  I was just happy he was here so I didn't have to do anything other than lay in bed and be sick.  I'll try to remember to update on how my week went and write down next week's goals in a few days.

Side note before I sign off.  Tomorrow I reach 35 weeks!  That means I have 35 days until my due date (tomorrow).  One week until the time Luke was born, 2 weeks until I am full term, who knows how long until this princess makes her debut :-D  Exciting stuff.  Ok, now I'm off to try to reach my goal of getting caught up on my Bible reading, at least a little bit!

Updated To Do List!

I've made a lot of progress on my pre-baby to do list, so I thought I'd update on here and get a good idea of what I have left.

* Get bunk beds for the boys, move T to L's room (bunk beds are taking a MONTH longer to come in...They were supposed to be here a week ago, now I might have the baby before they come. STRESSED!)  Still need to get this.  Just waiting on the beds.
* Paint Baby's room, decorate, get everything put away and ready (diapers, clothes, anything else that goes into her room)  Again, still waiting on the bunk beds so we can get started.  However, I have put all of her clothes in her dresser (which is currently in L's room, and L's clothes are in the dresser in T's room, C's future room.  Ha!  That makes a lot of sense, right?  But it's working.  For now.)
* WASH BABY CLOTHES!!!  DONE!  And they are put away!
* Install car seat. Actually, I need to get a car seat still. A friend offered to let us borrow hers since we only use them for about 4 months, but her daughter is still in it. Yikes! She planned to have her out of there a few months ago since she turned one in November. Lol. If we don't get it by the end of the month, I'll just go buy one.  Not done.  Another friend has offered us her car seat which is less than a year old and never been in an accident.  She said she will bring it to church tomorrow and we will get it installed next week.  Hopefully.
* Set up pack n play, which is where the princess will sleep for the first few months.  Half way done.  We realized that we somehow lost a part, so I had to order it.  It's one of the metal bars that supports the mattress.  Once that arrives, it will be VERY EASY to finish setting up.  Just put the bar in, and lay the mattress on top.  Everything else is set and ready.
* Wash all baby gear. Car seat cover, swing cover, bouncer seat cover, sheets, blankets, and the list just keeps on going....  DONE!
* Sanitize the one bottle we have just in case we decide to let her try a bottle, and the paci's. Done, mostly.  I decided not to sanitize the bottle until we know if we need it or not.  It would seem silly to sanitize it and then not use it.  I guess I could have waited on the paci's too, but I'm really hoping she takes those!
* Strip all diapers, especially since I bought some used newborn fluff.  DONE!!!  Whoop Whoop!
* Pack hospital bag. I'll post my list later with the things I'm packing. My goal is to bring as little as possible.  DONE!  I even have a little list of last minute things for J to add when the time comes.
* Pack a bag for the boys for Grammy and Papa's house.  I actually decided they don't need a bag packed for Grammy and Papa's house.  I brought extra clothes for both over already, diapers for L, they already have tooth brushes and paste for the boys, and anything else they might need.
* Baby shower next week  DONE!  It was fun.  I'll try to steal pictures from my mom and post them :)
* Start working on Freezer meals  Haven't even started.

I'm feeling really good about where we stand right now.  If she were born today, we would be prepared.  Sure, we don't have the car seat yet, but that's the last major thing we really need.  And it's not like a baby born at 34 weeks comes home two days after birth, anyway.  We would have time to get a car seat, either from one of our friends who have offered, or go buy one and get it all installed and checked before she would be ready to come home.  Same with the pack n play bar.  It will be here withing a week.  She could sleep in her swing, or even in our bed (I'm not against bed sharing when needed.  L slept in our bed for the first month or so because the ONLY place he would sleep was on top of me).

Ok, I was going to write more but the kids decided they want attention :)

Ok, I *think* that's it.  I hope that's it.  I already know it's not going to get done.  Her room will be far from ready.  But the good news is that she will never know :)

New Year, New Goals!

Quick update: Baby looks good and I am no longer considered high risk!  Praise the Lord!  Thanks for all of the prayers through that rough journey.  I'm so happy to be on this side of it and not at risk for anything terrible happening.

We've set a few goals for this year, and I thought it would be a good idea to write them down somewhere.  I picked here.  If they are online, maybe I'll feel the need to stick to them.  Last year's goals kind of went out the window when we found out baby #3 was coming.  I had things on there like run the army 10 miler, pay off our car, things like that.  I have never run 10 miles before and didn't feel like it would be a good idea to train while pregnant, and instead of paying off our car, we traded it in for a minivan.  I'm ok with it :)  I'd rather have this little girl than meet all of our goals last year.  This year, though, it would be nice if I can get some of our goals met.  So, with all that said, here they are:

1. Have a healthy, full term baby!  This one is obviously up to God and out of my control, but I'm putting it on here anyway :)
2. Run a race.  At this point, I just want to run one.  I don't need to do the 10 miler this year, although I'd really like to try to get to that point.  If I can do a 5k, I will be happy.
3. MAJOR declutter.  We have way too much stuff.  I want to get rid of a lot of it and learn to live more simply.  There is just no reason why I need to keep every little thing.  I'm happy to add to this one that J and I have made some great progress already this year!  We spent New Year's Day going through stuff and getting a lot of things together to give away.  I have two friends coming over today to look through it and see if there is anything they want for their babies/families.  Whatever is left is going to Goodwill or the Salvation Army.  I would prefer to try to sell it in a yard sale, but at this point, I'm just anxious to get it out of my house.
4. Contribute a certain amount to my kids' college funds.  My dad has been faithful about giving us money for them, but we haven't been able to add as much as he has.  This year, our goal is to match what he gives.
5. We also want to tithe more.  This is something we used to be really good at, but the past year or two, haven't given as much as we would like.
6. Our last goal for this year is to take a family vacation just the 5 of us (5...EEK!  We're going to be a family of 5)!  Right now, we are thinking either Great Wolfe Lodge, Busch Gardens, or possible make a trip up to PA for Hershey, Sesame Place, or the train station where Thomas and Friends come for a visit (Strasbourg?).

So there you have it.  Our goals for this wonderful year.  I don't think I set them too high, so I'm optimistic about it all.  I'll try to update throughout the year with how we're doing on them.  For smaller, more personal goals, I have the same as always.  The big one right now is simply to eat at home more.  I'd like to eat out with my parents once a week (Sunday), out for lunch once a week, and then out as a family for dinner once a week (usually Friday or Saturday, since those are the days J is home).  I know that's still eating out more than we should, but it's a lot less than we were eating out before.  Working on a weekly meal plan has helped me out with this a lot and I plan to continue doing it.  Once I get into the hang of eating at home more, I'll move on to another small goal (cutting back on our grocery budget by learning to use coupons, shop sales, and maybe even try making more from scratch).

Prayer works!

I am five weeks down with my ultrasounds.  Baby girl still looks perfect!  Woop woop!  However, another issue came up a few weeks ago.  L was born a little early.  4 weeks early, so it's not like he was a micro preemie or anything, but still, a preemie.  I also had a miscarriage a few years ago (5, to be exact).  With my history, the mfm has been checking my cervix length.  A short cervix is a good indicator of a woman having preterm labor.  I should be no shorter than 40mm.  Three weeks ago, I measured at 35mm.  That's short, but not enough for them to be too concerned yet.  The following week, the ultrasound tech had a really hard time getting accurate measurements because this baby sits right on my cervix.  She took 3 measurements, the longest was 31mm.  Not only is that too short, but it also means it shortened by 4mm in a week.  Again, they didn't say anything to me about it, but I could tell something was up.  The ultrasound tech always tries to print out a picture for me, but she didn't.  She quickly took my results to the doctor.  They also stressed that I be back in a week (which I do anyway, but they made sure of it this time).  When I came in the following week (last week), I had a different tech.  I was already a little stressed out since I have a lot of braxton hicks contractions and knew it was already too short.  Then she started asking me all kinds of questions that just seemed like something was wrong.  I try really hard not to panic, but honestly, I was really worried about it.  But God is bigger and stronger and more capable than anything, and once again, He proved it to me.  I expected to go home on bed rest, instead, my cervix measured a whopping 55mm!!!  Holy Moly!  God is so good.

I wrote that several weeks ago now.  Since then, my doctors have been able to see more accurate measurements.  I guess I was having a contraction when they measured that week, which made my cervix look longer than it really was.  I'm still ok, though.  My cervix measured around 40 for the following weeks.

My current update, as of November 25 is that I'm still hanging in there, with no shortage of drama in this pregnancy.  I finally got to a point where I wasn't as worried about the fifth disease, and then I had the cervix issue.  Then I got to the point where that seemed to be a non-issue.  This roller coaster ride I'm on took another big turn right after that and I ended up in L&D at 24 weeks with contractions.  Braxton Hicks contractions are normal in pregnancy, and often get worse with each additional pregnancy.  This is the case for me, which isn't fun since I had a lot with the boys, too.  Last Sunday, I had to go home from church because I was having so many.  It got to the point that I felt like I had better start timing them to make sure there was no pattern.  Most doctors want you to call if you have more than 4-6 in an hour.  However, because of my history, I knew my doctor would say "Lay down and drink lots of water.  If it doesn't improve in an hour, call back."  So I skipped calling them and just rested and drank water.  Lots of water.  After two hours and a total of 18 BH, I called.  Sure enough, the doctor said to continue what I'm doing and call back in an hour.  Two hours later, I was still having them.  Lots of them!  So we decided it was time to go in and be monitored.  When I was pregnant with L, I thought my labor contractions were just BH ones, and I was having far less than I had last Sunday (well, I guess the correct way to say that is I FELT a lot less, most of them were unnoticed by me).  Apparently, I don't know the difference between real labor and BH contractions.  Thankfully, they slowed down a little and I was sent home on bed rest.  The high risk doctor checked my cervix again this week and was happy with the results, so she took me off bed rest.  My cervix is now 37 mm, which is 2 mm longer than it has to be :)  I will continue to have these nasty contractions throughout my pregnancy, but as long as they don't affect my cervix, I'm not in any danger.  I'm just praying I make it to 37 weeks and a day this time around!

So, with one week left at the MFM, that's where I stand :)  I'm looking forward to being a "normal" pregnant lady again instead of high risk.  Although, at this point, I'm not sure which catagory I stand in since I am at risk for preterm labor?

My Rollercoaster

It's been a LONG time since I've written on this blog, but with all the ups and downs going on right now, I kind of feel like this might be a good place to get it all out.  A lot has happened since I last posted.  Early July, I found out that... I'M PREGNANT!  YAY!!!!  Had a great ultrasound in August with a healthy baby.  September brought Fifth Disease to our family.  The boys both had it but it wasn't too bad for them.  A blood test revealed that I had it, too.  I blamed all of the symptoms on pregnancy.  "Why is my morning sickness getting worse when it should be getting better???"  "My shoulders are so sore from having to sleep on my side.  So are my hips.  Everything is sore!"  At least I know I'm not crazy ;-)  However, there can be some complications to the baby.  Because of this, I am now seeing a high risk doctor weekly for ultrasounds and to make sure baby is ok.  One benefit to all of this?  It's fun seeing our baby!  We also found out early that she's a GIRL!!!!  YAY!!!!!  My normal anatomy scan isn't for another couple of weeks, so it's fun having extra time to prepare for HER.

The bad part about all of this?  Well, there's a lot of bad parts.  I'll start with the obvious.  There is a chance, although small, that my baby girl could have complications.  If this sickness gets to her, she could stop producing red blood cells (anemia).  If she stops producing them, her heart will have to work harder to make up for the lack of them, which would cause her to go into distress.  Her organs would also fill with fluid.  She would need a blood transfusion before she is even born.  Like I said, the chance of this is small (5-10%).  I'm not TOO concerned, but enough that I feel like I need to write it all down.

Another bad thing about it is that I have to drive 45 minutes away, weekly, for these appointments.  When we found out we would soon have three kids, we upgraded to a minivan.  I LOVE my minivan, but it's not pretty filling up the gas tank.  It would be nice to just go down the street for these appointments.  On days when I can't get the early appointment, I hit rush hour on the way home.  My 45 minute drive can double.  Yuck!!!

The third bad part, and this is more something I just need to get over, is that I hate having to rely on other people all the time to take care of my boys.  I feel like a huge burden to others.  Now, everyone who I've asked to watch them seems more than happy to help, and they all assure me we are NOT an inconvenience.  Generally speaking, my boys are very well behaved (for others, at least).  Plus, I think I have enough people to watch them that I only have to ask them once a month.  I am sure it's not as bad as I make it out to be in my head, but I really stress over this.  Probably more than anything else.  I also worry about how they will do without me if I end up needing to be in the hospital for a couple days, or if I go on bed rest, I will have to rely on people even more...making me an even bigger burden on people.  (the bed rest fear is due to the fact that I had a preemie and they will be checking my dilation early, like as in, starting next week).

So basically, this is where I am right now.  So far, baby looks perfect!  She is showing absolutely no problems.  I'm trying not to worry about next week, and trusting God that He really does have this whole situation covered.  I know He does, I just need to keep trusting Him.

Knee Dr!

I finally saw the doctor today about my knee.  This guy was recommended to us by my favorite running inspiration, my nutritionist friend :)  They know her by name and two different people told us she has "frequent flier miles"  Lol!  Anyway, back to my knee.  It looks like I sprained it during my 4 mile barefoot run on the beach.  Since I'm feeling a lot better, he said I can try to run a 1/4 mile and then come home and ice it.  If I don't have any pain, two days later I can try 1/2 a mile.  Two days after that, 3/4.  If I make it up to a mile, I'm good to go.  If I have any pain, I need to call him back and set up an MRI, but he seemed pretty confident that I wouldn't need that.  Hooray!!!  I cannot wait to get out there and start running again.  I'm planning to build up slower now.  I was adding a mile a week, but now I'll just add half a mile a week.  I realize that it will take twice as long to get my dog, but hopefully I wont have any more injuries!  Hubby got his knee looked at too.  He's going back tomorrow to start PT for his IT problems.  Maybe we can be one of those crazy couples who runs together after all ;)

I have friends coming on Friday.  I can't wait to see them!  But I really need to get this house in order!  I also need to figure out something for dinner.  J has to work late since he went in late due to our appointments, so it's just me and the boys.  I don't like cooking when I'm on my own.  I'm hoping to post pictures of my newly painted guest room and kitchen soon.  Stay tuned for those (next week?)
